May 18th - Friday Street Races at Houston Raceway Park

A few of us in Houston decided to show up for a little test and tune session. I wanted to see how my car performed with the recent changes I did.

I was informed that my car might run a little lean with no exhaust and so I bumped up the fuel jet of the nitrous to compensate. That was a bad move as my first run of 17.871 can show. The engine got flooded every time I sprayed.

My second pass was a little better but I was fighting bottle pressure problems. I could not get the bottle to maintain anything above 900 psi. A 15.605 was not a happy sight.

My third run was even worse as bottle pressure went through the floor. Yes I had my bottle heater on but it wasn't helping. I ran a 15.679.

I decided to bump up to 100 shot since now I had a retardable ignition. I pulled out the MSD to double check the settings and replaced the jets.

While in the staging lanes 2 cars back from the start I heard a click, a hiss, and then my engine died and wouldn't start again. When we pushed the car back to the pits the smell of gas was very strong and I thought my fuel solenoid went bad and got stuck open.

All day Monday I spent working on the car and found out some interesting stuff.

First I found out that when I was checking the MSD settings and put it back, the umbilical cord slipped and hit the NOS fire switch and that's what caused the flood.

Second, I got a NOS purge kit from a local team member and proceeded to install it. After I finished the install and went to test it there was no white cloud, just air. I checked the bottle weight and it was empty. That would explain the low bottle pressure and also why my engine didn't eat itself when the cable slipped and hit the NOS.

I am planning on going back to the track this Friday and test the 100 shot with a full bottle and a purge kit. Should be interesting.
